Vassa
Vassa: the Buddhist rains retreat, three months of quiet practice
What this journey is for
Vassa is the Buddhist rains retreat, about three months from roughly July to October, moving each year with the lunar calendar. It is mainly kept by monks and nuns, who stay in one place to practise, while lay people support them and often take on a small commitment for the season. This journal follows those months with a short passage from the early Buddhist texts, a question and a small practice each day. You do not need any prior knowledge, or to observe Vassa, to use it, in season or at any time of year.
When is it?
Usually July to October, moving each year with the lunar calendar. You can begin in the season itself or at any time of year.
Each day
A short passage, one question to sit with, room to write and one small practice. About five minutes.
