Elul to Yom Kippur
Elul to Yom Kippur: forty days of returning around the Jewish New Year
What this journey is for
This journal follows the forty days from the start of Elul, the last month of the Jewish year, through Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, to Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. The season falls in late summer and early autumn, on different dates each year because the Hebrew calendar follows the moon. It is a time of teshuvah, returning: a gentle, honest look at the year that is ending and a turn toward the person you want to be. No prior knowledge or observance is needed, and you can use it in season or at any time of year.
When is it?
Late summer to early autumn, on dates set by the Hebrew calendar. You can begin in the season itself or at any time of year.
Each day
A short passage, one question to sit with, room to write and one small practice. About five minutes.
